Annual Sweetheart Screening

All are welcome to this complimentary cardiac screening in recognition of American Heart Month. This event will include the following screenings, presentations and opportunities:

Saving Lives Through Colorectal Screening

Please join MemorialCare Medical Group gastroenterologist, Ashkan Farhadi, M.D., M.S., F.A.C.P., and Orange Coast Medical Center oncology nurse navigator, Robin Philips, RN, M.S.N., B.S.N., P.H.N., for an informative presentation about how colorectal screenings can detect colorectal disease during its earliest stages. After the presentation, FREE fecal immunochemical test (FIT) kits will be handed out to all registered attendees for at-home testing. Limited quantity available. Registration is required.

Named after cancer survivor and founder, Marti Johnson, Marti’s Closet at Orange Coast Medical Center provides cancer surgery patients the opportunity to select button-down blouses, at no charge, to help aid in their comfort during the recovery process. The MemorialCare Cancer Institute is pleased to offer the American Lung Association’s Sail Away From Smoking Towards Health class. This eight-session course is taught by a certified facilitator, Robin Philips, RN, M.S.N., B.S.N., P.H.N., nurse navigator. Classes are based on the American Lung Association’s guidelines. Heart Valve Disease Awareness
and Prevention

More than 5 million Americans are diagnosed with heart valve disease each year. With Heart Valve Disease Awareness Day around the corner, cardiologist Sanjiv Patel, M.D., will discuss common signs of heart valve disease, causes of heart valve disease, risk factors and complications, and treatment options. Tips for Keeping Your Allergies
and Asthma Under Control

Physical and Speech Therapy Services

Cognitive Therapy Services

Cognitive therapy addresses difficulties with thinking (attention, planning, organizing) and memory. Individuals with early onset dementia, Parkinson’s disease, stroke, traumatic brain injury and post chemotherapy patients all benefit from cognitive therapy. For more information, please call (714) 378-5095.

Vestibular and Balance Rehabilitation

Physical therapists incorporate specialized training to identify and treat problems specific to the vestibular and balance systems. Dizziness, vertigo, imbalance and falls will be assessed and treated accordingly with vestibular and balance exercises and activities. Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program

The Orange Coast Medical Center Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program will help people with chronic lung disease gain better control of their breathing and improve their overall quality of life. Our staff will work in partnership with you to evaluate your abilities and develop an individualized treatment and exercise plan. Orange Coast Medical Center has a team specializing in pulmonary rehabilitation. The team provides intensive exercise, education, self-management training and psychosocial support under the medical direction of a board-certified pulmonologist (lung specialist). For more information, please call (714) 378-7055.

Bereavement Support Group

This support group provides a safe environment to help individuals who are grieving due to the loss of a loved one. Better Breathers Club

Cost: Free

This support group is for people with chronic lung disease and helps people with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and other lung diseases, such as emphysema and chronic bronchitis. The group brings members together to learn skills to help manage their condition and improve their quality of life, based on the American Lung Association guidelines. Loved ones are also welcomed to attend. Registration is required.

Infant CPR Safety

This class includes information about car seat safety, household safety, drowning prevention, infant CPR and choking, dog bites, and safety around animals. Mothers and partners are encouraged to attend. Registration is required.

Breastfeeding Clinic
Mondays and Thursdays, 1 – 4 p.m.
Cost: Free

This clinic is provided for follow-up breastfeeding care for infants from newborn to 12 weeks. Mothers may come during the clinic hours and receive assistance for issues such as sore nipples, baby not latching, low milk supply, going back to work, or any other breastfeeding concerns. Mothers are also welcome if their baby is breastfeeding well. Clinic will not be held on holidays.

Vietnamese Breastfeeding Online Class
Cost: Free

Parkinson’s Wellness Recovery (PWR!) and Loud Crowd®

Orange Coast Medical Center’s Outpatient Rehabilitation Department offers evidence-based, clinically proven, physical and speech therapy by licensed therapists certified in the Parkinson’s Wellness Recovery (PWR!) and Parkinson’s Voice Project (SPEAK OUT!®) techniques. Screenings and Prevention

CT Lung Cancer Screening

Orange Coast Medical Center offers a low-dose CT lung screening that may detect disease early, when treatment may be more successful. By using computed tomography (CT), physicians are able to see and detect abnormalities in the lungs as small as a grain of rice. To schedule a screening, please call (714) 378-7650.


Criteria for screening (Must meet all 3):

• Age between 55-77 years old 

• Have smoked one pack per day
for 30 years or longer

• Currently smoking or have quit
within the last 15 years

The Heart of the Matter

Living with Atrial Fibrillation

Left untreated, atrial fibrillation, or AFib, can cause life-threatening complications, such as stroke or heart failure. Electrophysiologist with the MemorialCare Heart & Vascular Institute at Orange Coast Medical Center, Nikhil Warrier, M.D., F.A.C.C., will discuss the symptoms and treatment options for AFib, along with when to seek treatment and the best course of care for this condition.

Understanding Diabetes

Being diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes can bring with it many unanswered questions. Join Michele Cooper, G.N.P., a board-certified geriatric nurse practitioner with MemorialCare Medical Group, to learn about the causes of Type 2 diabetes as well as treatment strategies that can aide in the management of diabetes.

MemorialCare Surgical Weight Loss Center

The MemorialCare Surgical Weight Loss Center at Orange Coast Medical Center is an Accredited Comprehensive Center, designated by the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP). Surgical Weight Loss Support Group
Every Monday except the fifth Monday of the month, 6:30 – 8:30 p.m.

Support meetings for patients who have undergone surgical intervention for treatment of clinically severe obesity. Any individual who is considering having weight-loss surgery is also welcome. Meetings are conducted by a clinical psychologist. The fourth Monday meeting every month is dedicated to post-operative
patients only.
